CATERPILLAR HUNTING

This is our third year in a row to get invited by our friend and local preschool teacher to go monarch caterpillar hunting with her. We search the fields for milkweed and then inevitably find several caterpillars lurking among the leaves nibbling ferociously. Once the caterpillars are retrieved, we take them home (our friend takes hers to her classroom), along with extra milkweed for their food and then eagerly wait to observe the metamorphosis process. Once they turn into butterflies we free them.

This is our favorite science lesson of the school year full of wonder, beauty, learning, and excitement!
