Summertime Uniform

I always find it difficult to keep outfit posts coming in the summer because I tend to gravitate towards practical shorts, tees, and flip flops for beating the heat and chasing kiddos. Nothing too exciting or interesting, especially when I'm wearing the same version of that everyday. I used to wear a lot of dresses, but finding a dress I can nurse in, isn't always easy.

However, it can't just be any pair of shorts or flip flops. I like genuine leather flips that wear well and look more polished than beach ready Havaianas styles.

Then there are the accessories. Lately I've been wearing minimal accessories due to my daughter breaking so much of what I used to wear. I've been sticking to my silver Bulova watch, and today I added the silver bouquet necklace to bring out the silver in my shoes and watch. Hopefully Capri won't destroy this one!

Now on to tops. I've been wearing mostly sleeveless knit tees, some have embellishment, some are high low, and some are just classic v-necks. If I'm not wearing a tee, I'm wearing this jean shirt. Then the trick is to figure out if it should be untucked, half tucked, or completely tucked. my favorite is completely untucked since I have such a short torso and still have a belly from my pregnancies, but I tried all three ways for the pictures in this post.

Shorts also have to be just the right length. Too long, and I feel like my legs look like two little stumps. Too short, and I feel like I'm pushing the limit of what is appropriate for a mom of three in her thirties to wear. Enter J.Crew shorts that come in every length possible. My favorite length is the 5", which I'm wearing here.

What's your summer uniform? Do you have any tips for great dresses that are cool and easy to nurse in?

Top - Goodwill - $3
Shorts - J.Crew - $15
Flip flops - Gap - $4

Gettin' My Groove Back

If you ran into me this week, you'd have been met with a very sweaty, messy hair, make-up-less, slightly frazzled version of myself. I've had a difficult time this week trying to snap out of the dull drums after spending a week of excitement with my family in Michigan.

Yesterday was my first day of energy. Maybe the coffee had something to do with it, maybe the fact I finally got my butt outside to run had something to do with it. Whatever the reason, I feel pretty well rested up now and was excited to pull out this new-to-me skirt out of my closet this morning.

I've really loved the striped full skirt trend and was thrilled that I finally found a secondhand version of it.

Now that church is over, lunch has been eaten, and the kids are napping, I'm enjoying a relaxing Sunday blogging and watching Alfred Hitchcock's The Wrong Man. Even better yet is that while I'm "babysitting", the hubby is out getting supplies to clean out our cars inside and out for me. Before you go feeling sorry that he's working while I'm relaxing, don't worry, he'll have his turn. We'll swap out after he's done with the cars and I'll be cleaning bathrooms while he watches the kids.

And in other inconsequential news, my cell phone is eligible for an upgrade this month. I would love to upgrade, but I keep hearing I need to wait till the iPhone 6 comes out in the Fall. I'm chomping at the bit - my 4 is having a hard time holding a charge for more than 8 hours with the new IOS software I downloaded (should have known not to. Oh well).

I'm wearing:

Jean shirt - Goodwill - $2
Skirt - Care 'n Share - $4
Pumps - Steve Madden - hand-me-down

Get the entire look for $75:

Just Kidding

Rocked a western look a couple of weeks ago.

Just kidding. However, I did find this pair of genuine leather Double H cowboy boots at Goodwill for only $5. When I brought them home to show to the fam, I threw on the hat and told Chris he needed to take me to a country concert. He just laughed and called me a poser. He knows me well.

Thought I'd show you how I actually wore the altered skirt I (wrote) about last week. This look was also featured in my guest post over at www.hopehelmsblog.com here.

Cassi thought she should be in the photos too since we are both "twins" with our topknots and sneakers.

Denim shirt - Sonoma via Goodwill - $3
Knit skirt - Express - hand-me-down
Converse sneakers - DSW - $20

You can shop the look here:
