Outfit Post: Green

This morning I decided to take the kids to the movies. Our local theatre has free showings for children at 10:00 on Wednesday mornings. So these are the photos I got straight from the shower, before I fixed my hair and as I was rushing out the door. Last night when I got home from the salon, my hair looked smooth and perfect like this.
I know, very blurry photo. Gone are the days when I have the time to actually use a real camera. Droid camera photos are all I take these days.

After the theatre I was able to curl my hair (gasp). Something I haven't done in ages it seems. I just curled the ends of a few pieces since I am again on the run for more outings today. Here are the lovely headshots of my new haircut. Now, you are all probably not seeing any difference whatsoever. But bear with me. The last time I stepped foot in a salon was 7 years ago. While I've always had my hair done by a professional, it was always inside their home, so I haven't had the full wash treatment in quite a while. I felt completely pampered for two and a half hours last night and can't wait to go back. It may look the same, but it feels totally different. I am a new woman I tell you.

This green dress I won a long time ago from a blog giveaway. It's from Target. The leather belt is from my trip to Florence, and the shoes are Nine West. The faux emerald cuff and earrings are vintage and gifted.

Red hair?

I'm going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in a few weeks, and thought I better fix my ever growing dark roots in my hair before I appeared in wedding photos. Thinking I'd go the cheap route, I bought a couple of boxes of semi-permanent color in the lightest brown I could find, so as to avoid a deep dark brown that just isn't my natural color. When it dried, it looked red in sunlight!
It settled down to a brown color throughout the day and I am now back to my brown hair color - no more blonde highlights!

Sweater - BCBG (thrifted) - $6
Belt - Gap - $24.50
Brown polka dot shirt - hand-me-down from lil sis
Pearls - thrifted - $1
Boyfriend jeans - J.Crew (Ebay) - $2
T-strap pumps - Aerosoles - $29
Russian Red lipstick - MAC

Close ups of the hair

New haircolor

I had my hair lightened last night, and then again this morning. I'm loving my new summer look!

Wearing basically the same thing as yesterday, except I borrowed my little sister's blouse. :-) It's so nice to have a sister that wears the same size!

Clarification on how to cut your own hair...

I'm a little confused: could you extrapolate a little bit on #2? I'm not seeing what you mean - are you cutting a horizontal or vertical line?

I'm cutting a vertical line. I'm pulling all the hair on the sides to the front of my face, and then cutting the line vertically. Next time I do this I'll take pictures of the process so you can see better! In fact, I am cutting a friend's hair on Sunday and I'll get pictures taken of that process in order to explain this better.

On #4, did you put all your hair over your face and cut it or just bend over so that your hair fell past your face?

First I bent over so the hair would all just fall. But I didn't cut it completely bent over, because I wouldn't get as short of a layer around my face, just a nice wedge in the back, so I just grabbed all the hair, stood up, and slightly bent my face forward, and then cut the hair about six inches from my forehead. Again, a picture will help explain this and I'll have that on Sunday!

Actually, I also have a question on #1...how'd you do the U shape? Just freehand or what?

It is not an exact U-shape that I do. I cut about an inch straight across (horizontally), and then start going down on both sides from there. It ends up looking like a U, but it doesn't have to be exact and you can make it as wide or small as you like depending on the cut you are going for. If you make the U wider, your bang is going to be more defined. If you make the U thinner, you'll have more layers on the side of your face, and the bang will be very blended.

I really want to try this on myself but I'm incredibly nervous...would you say that with long hair, it's fairly easy to hid flaws or do you pretty much have to be exactly right-on?

If you have very thin, straight hair, then you need a more precise cut. Each piece of hair will show, so if there is a wrong cut, you will see it. If you have curly or wavy hair, then you can pretty much get away with any cut, and the waves and/or curls will hide it all. If you have thick hair with a lot of body (like mine), then you can hide any flaws in the way you style your hair. However, without natural curls and waves, you will definitely want to style it if the cut turns out bad.

I would recommend cutting your own hair so long as you know how to style your hair, do not have pin straight hair (or like to wear your hair pin straight), and so long as you have medium to thick hair.

Good luck!

More Looks from Taaz

Just for fun

Super Kawaii Mom pointed out this uber cool website that allows you to upload your photo and try different hairstyles and make-up on.

I had fun trying different looks on, but finally had to admit to myself that my natural haircolor is the best (as you can tell from the pics below) even though I keep wishing I could pull off blond. I liked different cuts on me, but I am too attached to long hair to try anything different there.

I went all out on the make-up and thought it was especially cool that I could see what I looked like in ridiculous amounts of make-up, without having to wash it all off afterwards! After seeing myself with this much make-up, I have definitely ruled false eyelashes out. Between the caked on dark eyeshadow and the falsies...I look like a drag queen!

I guess from here on out I need to just leave my hair as is and stop experimenting.

Oh - and excuse the shiny forehead...I should have tried some more virtual make-up on to cover all that up! lol!

New Haircut

I forgot to note in my haircolor post the color I dyed my hair: Clairol Natural Instinct - Medium Brown/Hazelnut color (I think the number was 28).

New Haircolor

Sometimes you just gotta try something new...

No worries, though - it's non-permanent!
