Dressed Up Casual

I guess short season continues. It was so cool for most of the week, and then got really hot again this weekend.

I wore this for a family dinner party at our house. It is very comfortable to wear, probably because of how voluminous it is. See that big bunch of loose fabric right around my middle? It was a very inviting empty space that I happily obliged by filling it up with cheeseburgers and rhubarb cobbler. And guess what? There is still plenty of room. Now for some ice cream.

Outfit Post: Specs

I'm not really posting today because of my outfit - I'm posting today because I finally get to wear real prescription glasses!
After some straining problems, I went to see an optomestrist for the first time. It turns out, my vision is just fine, except for when I'm at the computer or reading something close. Even then, my only problem is a weakness in the muscles that align my eyes together so they can focus. The doctor told me I didn't even need to wear glasses if I didn't want to, but said that the prescription might help ease the strain if I wanted to wear them while I'm at the computer or reading.
I think they are so cool. :-) Do I look sophisticated and smart now? lol!
 Maybe not.

Outfit Post: First Maternity Top

While I still have several non-maternity tops that I can wear just fine, I couldn't wait to get this particular maternity top out. It was my favorite with my first pregnancy, and has even stood the wear and tear of being borrowed several times over!
It probably makes me look quite a bit larger than I am yet, but it is so comfortable, and I love how it drapes.
Just got back from story hour and playland with some friends, and now off to get my first ultrasound!

Answer to a reader question: Bermuda Shorts

One of our readers brought up a great question:

Hi! Been a reader of your blog for a while and love it! I enjoy seeing your outfit posts because we are the same height and have similar proportions so I know that if something works for you, good chance it will work for me too. My question is in regard to bermuda shorts. I like the just above knee length, but I'm having trouble finding a comfortable pair that doesn't have leg openings that are too wide. If the leg openings are too wide, I look shorter and wider. I'm trying to find a more elongating pair for the summer. Any tips on what I should be looking for? Would shopping in the petites be my best option?

I'm totally with you on having trouble finding the right bermudas! I run into the same problems of finding that the leg opening is too wide, or the length too long!

I have finally figured out that the only bermudas that look right on me, are those that have a little stretch to them. Stretch = leaner line = slimming.

For stretch bermudas, I've found juniors styles tend to make the most flattering bermudas.

American Eagle also makes some very slimming choices. The two below are from AE. This navy pair below is my favorite and is currently on sale for $29.95!

This pair from Ann Taylor Loft looks really flattering, and is designed specifically to taper in a little at the knee.

For length, you could try J.Crew's 9" chino short, or opt for a rolled style so you can adjust the hem to any length you like (see the denim bermudas from AE above for an example).

Lastly, my cheap way of finding flattering bermudas is to cut off older pairs of bootcut jeans at the knee. Bootcut jeans thin out right where it should for a bermuda short. You could also just pick up a cheap pair of bootcuts at a thrift store - cut them a little longer than the length you desire, and roll them up to the "just-above-knee-length" that you want.

Good luck shopping and let us know what you score!

Nic

Summer weather in the spring time

It's a glorious day today and feels like summer!

I found these American Eagle shorts at a thrift store for only $3 and decided they were worth it even though they are a size too big. They are versatile, comfy, modest, and practical for summer.

Hope you all are enjoying spring!

Back again

I haven't been posting this week because I've either been at the fair...all sweaty and gross, or dressed in workout clothes all day because I don't have time to change after my jog during my lunchbreak when I'm working from home all day.

We're going to the county fair again tonight in the heat and in the rain. I had to wear shoes that I didn't mind getting muddy, but would keep me cool (cheap flip flops was my choice), and then had to wear jeans because we'll be sitting on dirty benches on the grandstand. To keep cool, I chose a knit halter top. It's too hot to really accesorize this outfit, so I just put on some silver hoop earrings

I know it's not much of a post today, but it's better than nothing, right?

Top - Banana Republic - $7
Shorts - hand-me-downs
Flip flops - Target - $5
Hoop earrings - Target - $1

Friday

Wish I took a better shot of the shoes, since the only reason I posted this outfit is because I liked the real casual outfit with a pair of heels (they are not very high - just 2", but they are metalic, picking up the shine in my t-shirt).

Shorts - hand-me-down (were pedal pushers, I hemmed to knee length and added the cuff)
Sandals - Target - $5
Silver large hoop earrings - Target - $1

What I ended up with for the house party...

I'm such a dork! lol! This is what I ended up wearing last night instead of the skirt and sweater. That stupid stain (see post below). For the record (and as follow-up to my post below), I still don't like how I look in shorts, and I ended up wearing a higher heeled shoe than I originally planned...but oh well.

Tuesday

It was hot today...a welcome change! The first day of the year in shorts!

Tonight is church, so I just wore a navy tank top with this for the day, and then added earrings and the orange top for the service. It's so warm out, I won't be adding any kind of a jacket.

Navy check bermudas - thrifted - $4
Orange knit top - H&M - $5
Leather wedges - Target - $6 (I had to note that they are genuine leather, since most of my Target shoes are just cheap man made materials and only worth the $4-$6 I pay for them)
Venetian glass earrings (orange colored - and sorry - no picture) - gifted

I wore my white bag with this.

Have a great evening ladies!

Bermuda Shorts for Church Nursery

I rarely wear crazy color eyeshadows, and wish you could see that I'm wearing shiny aqua colored eyeshadow today to match my shirt! Missi, it's that fourth color in that Very Sexy VS eyeshadow compact you bought me for Christmas two years ago. I put the color even under my lower lashes, so it really makes a statement!
And if you click on this pictures to enlarge it you can get a better view of my white gold/diamond chip/aqua earrings. My husband bought them for me, so they are extra special.
And since it's only going to be 72 degrees today, had to add the jean jacket.
