Dressed Up Shorts

I've had a cold for over a week now. It's really starting to get old. Everything seems so much harder when you can't breathe and your temples are about to burst. My life feels very disorganized right now and everything seems to be spiraling out of control. My house is a mess, my yard is only half mowed (long story), the seedlings we started died after I planted them in my garden (another long story), my children need more attention, and my pile of projects to complete keeps getting bigger. At least I have one thing accomplished. CJ finished first grade.

I'm so proud of him for bearing with me this year and having so much enthusiasm for learning. I love my boy. I love that he cherishes any one on one time he can get with me and that so far he hasn't tired of me. We have a lot ahead of us, but we've made a step in the right direction.

Now on to this outfit. Isn't it fun? I love the tuxedo stripe on the shorts. I bought these shorts on clearance at Target while I was very pregnant with Capri. I'm so thrilled I can fit into them for this summer. Wearing it with the jacket and heels made it look dressed up and polished for a date night with my man, but it looked just as good without the jacket and a pair of flats for around the house with the kids.

Jacket - thrifted - $3
Shorts - Target - $4
T-shirt - Express - $6

A Converse Sneaker Kind of Day

Last year I started to realize just how cute Converse sneakers are. I know. I'm a late bloomer. I went on a lookout and finally found my perfect pair for only $20 at DSW. I wear them so much more than I thought I would. They really do go with almost anything.

The Fort Worth Stockyards

On day two of my Texas trip, Jenny took us to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Such a fun touristy place with cute little shops, museums, and restaurants.

For walking around the historic district at The Stockyards I wore:

Jacket - Florence, Italy - gifted Similar for $300
Scarf - Target - gifted Similar for $5 plus free shipping!
Top - Gap - $4 Similar for $35
Jeans - H&M - $2.50 Similar for $27
Leopard flats - Gap - $7 Similar for $20
Sunglasses - Banana Republic - $17

Of course we had to stop for cupcakes - yum!

After the Stockyards we headed to Yucatan Taco Stand for lunch where Missi and Capri spent some time bonding while I scarfed down my food and more fried plantains in garlic aioli sauce than I care to admit.

After dinner at home I switched out the flats for heels from Target ($8 - similar for $52) and a clutch from H&M (gifted - similar for $30) before heading to Times Ten Cellars

I haven't been to Fort Worth in five years and hope it won't be another five years before I'm back again. Such a fun town!

Window Shopping for Clearance Coats at Nordstrom

While everyone else is thinking Spring, I usually start looking for good deals on end of season Winter coats. Here are a few of my picks for under $200 in a couple of different styles (click on the pictures to shop).

The Puffer:

I'm really liking this Tahari puffer. It looks like it could withstand the temps we've experienced this season and I love the taupe color and the flattering princess seams.

The collar totally makes this coat and I love how it keeps it's shape by defining the waistline.

How cute is this? Love the moto style in a puffer.

Maternity:

When looking for a maternity coat, I try to avoid actual maternity coats. I want something that I'll wear whether I'm pregnant or not. This one is really cute and should work throughout a pregnancy.

This is a really cute style and perfect for pregnancy. I wore a swing coat for my second pregnancy and it worked great.

Trendy:

Leopard print is so glamorous and classic. I love it that this vintage look is so very now. It's under $75, too. Can't beat that!

I love this deep blue collar, and the dropped button and faux leather skinny shawl collar is very on trend.

I like how this coat has a moto jacket look, but provides extra warmth because it's longer. It would give toughness and edge to any look, but be totally comfortable and easy to wear.

Leather:

I'm not a big fan of faux leather. If you want a leather jacket, the classic moto style is always on trend and goes great with any outfit. This grey jacket is no exception.

Only the sleeves are leather, the rest is coated fabric, but the quality looks impeccable for under $200.

This leather jacket looks effortlessly chic and so comfortable. It would be a great transition coat, too.

Classic Wool Coats:

The asymmetrical collar keeps this classic shaped wool coat fun.

Classic herringbone wool coat that reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn would wear.

Wouldn't this be perfect for an English countryside stroll?
