My New Shoes

My sister-in-law-to-be gave me these cute sandals on Easter. She bought them at a thrift store to wear for her rehearsal dinner, and decided to test them out on Easter Sunday. They were too uncomfortable for her, so she passed them on to me. When it comes to shoes, the last thing I care about is comfort. She is now my new favorite sister-in-law-to-be. I love these shoes!

Shoes - Seychelles - hand-me-down
Top - J.Crew via Goodwill - $3
Jeans - H&M - $2.50

Shopping Picks

So I need more maternity clothes like I need extra pounds . . . but these cuties from Zulily caught my eye today and I am wishing for them. I'm pretty sure that owning these will be my only way to get through the next two months.

And I've already got the itch for Fall boots . . . 'cause let's face it. You can never have too many.

I need to unsubscribe from Zulily so I stop this coveting. Or just get a job so I can buy all this stuff. Nah. I'll just call upon my Fairy Godmother.

Loving this from the Gap right now . . . snatched them up on clearance yesterday!

I went shopping yesterday in 4 inch spikey shoes at an outdoor mall in the rain, no less. What was I thinking? I usually bring an emergency pair of flats in my car or my purse, but had completely forgotten this time around. After about two hours, my feet were done (I'm impressed I lasted that long), and I decided to add to my shopping list a pair of pointy toed flats for Fall. Found these at Gap for $21.97. All leather, inside and out. They looked so adorable with my black capri leggings! I can't wait to wear them again!

Shoe Shopping

With my family in Grand Rapids, Michigan this weekend, I met up with a friend who is looking for some cowboy boots to go with a lace dress. We tried the clearance rack at DSW and didn't find what we were looking for.

Aldo has a 30% off their clearance prices sale going on right now and I found these online that would be perfect:
These are 30% off of $65. Not a bad price for leather boots! If you get them in white, they are 30% off of $41!

While we tried to find some cowboy boots, I was searching for some biker type boots that weren't too flashy. We didn't find any at DSW...but these two below are exactly what I'm looking for!!!

I think I need to head to Aldo this weekend.

Answer to a reader question...

I would like to find some ballet flats/kitten heels to wear with jeans. My wardrobe is mainly aqua, purples, blacks/grays, white. What color shoes would go well with these colors, but not be too "matchy-matchy"? Two colors I was thinking were a salmon color, and a leopard print; but I didn't know if either of them would work.

And where is a good place to get cute, but inexpensive shoes?

Cap toe ballet flats were noted in the Lucky magazine as being the "it" ballet flat for spring, so you can keep that in mind when shopping. I personally am a big fan of the bows, but the cap toe looks very classy too! My favorite color with aqua is coral red and favorite color with purple is yellow. For blacks, grays, and white, I love red.

So for the colors you wear, I would recommend going more coral than salmon, but salmon will definitely work and is perfect for spring. And leopard print is always great. It's a neutral and will go with everything.
Charles David, 70% off for $79 at 6pm.com

Michael Kors - $83 at 6pm.com - and this is an animal print that would work for spring/summer because it has a peeptoe!
These are so cute and perfect for summer! They are only $23.70 from 6pm.com

Type Z from 6pm.com for $22.50
Gabriella Rocha at 6pm.com for $32

The colors of this shoe are so happy! I love it! It is $79 via zappos.com

Another suggestion would be to try an espadrille flat. These come in a variety of colors and styles like what you see above. I found that most of these styles were by Naturalizer for $59 via zappos.com
I can't resist a yellow shoe! I have a yellow ballet flat that surprisingly goes with most everything in my wardrobe. This one is Nine West for $59 via Piperlime.com

This is a nautical inspired espadrille which is another great option. It's Tommy Hilfiger for $49 via Piperlime.com

As for where to find inexpensive shoes, use the above examples as inspiration and look for the same styles that are discounted at a large shoe store like DSW. Go straight to the back of their store to check out their clearance section. I find some amazing deals there on good, quality, designer shoes.

I also go to Target, Macy's, Dillards, and JCPenney and find some pretty good deals in their clearance sections, especially if I'm shopping at the end of the season.

I highly recommend, however, online shoe shopping. The search engines are so detailed, you don't have to spend hours sesarching, but most importantly, most online shoe stores offer free next day shipping and free returns. That means you can purchase 20+ shoes online, receive them all in a day or two, try them all on, pick out what works best, and ship all the rest back that you don't want. The only price you'll be stuck with for that service is the one pair of shoes you bought. These sites also are usually running promotions where you can get even more discounts. Be sure to check out their clearance shoes, too.

Online shoe sites that offer free shipping and returns are http://piperlime.gap.com, http://www.endless.com, and http://www.zappos.com . I'm sure there are others, but those are my go- to sites. For really great discounts, go to http://www.6pm.com. They offer free shipping, but not free returns. Another great selection for shoes that offers free shipping (not free returns) is http://www.nordstrom.com .

Hope this helps, and happy shoe shopping!

Ballet Flats With Bows

I'm just loving bow topped ballet flats right now - especially pointy toed ballet flats. I got these from DSW a while back, and can't wait to wear them more often in the spring. I find it hard to wear ballet flats in winter because I like to wear them barefoot, but I pulled these out to wear today cold weather and all. Don't these look perfect with my pink cigarette pants!?

I did a little online shopping for more like mine and am in love with these Kate Spade's. They are a mere $133 from Endless (on sale).

Have a tight budget? Try these from 6pm.com for $35.
Or these from 6pm.com for $25.
What shoes are you looking forward to wearing this spring?

Session Five: Organizing Your Shoes

To organize your shoes, first you need to:

1. Remove out-of-season shoes from your closet to make space for your new in-season shoes.

2. Next discard any shoes that are beyond repair and give away any shoes you no longer wear.

3. Store your shoes properly so as to help them retain their life. For example:

Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore offers a brilliant solution for storing knee-high boots and helping them retain their shape:

Use an old bottle. Isn't that a fabulous way to recycle bottles too?

Another idea for storing knee-high boots would be to roll up already read magazines - as many as needed to fill up the boot to make it stand upright.

For tips on how to properly store high quality shoes that you wear only for special occasions, go here.

4. Also, be sure to regularly polish your shoes.

5. Organize your shoes in your closet.

Wouldn't it be glorious if we each had a shoe closet like Mariah Carey? Sigh.

Since we don't all have the luxury of a shoe closet, try to utilize the shelf space in your closet by purchasing shoe racks, cubby holes, or build extra shelves into your closet. For some of us, the floor is a good option as well.

New shoes

Sorry I haven't been posting much. I feel like I just keep wearing and re-wearing all the same outfits I always wear and post. So...that's my excuse. At any rate, I did want to post some cute new shoes I just bought though! I got these on sale at Kohls. Normally $54 on sale for $19.99
I like them a lot! Sadly, in the first day I wore them I managed to scuff up the toe part. *sigh* cheap shoes, what can I say. One day I will own really nice shoes and I will care for them very, very well. lol

It's gonna be a hot day!

Everyone is telling me it's going to get to 90 today. For a Washington summer day...that's pretty warm. I'm super excited and my big plans for the day include babysitting a bunch of friends kids and playing in the sprinklers. Until babysitting starts I'm keeping it pretty casual with my jean skirt, light weight, roomy t-shirt and my very comfy stripped wedges. Hope everyone else is getting a wonderful summer day too!
