LOVE THE COLOR BLUE

I was just complaining about summer being over and now it seems I was mistaken. We've had a week of warm weather and the forecast looks like the warmth will continue at least another week! The kids played in the hose yesterday and we're planning to go to the pool after school tomorrow. Love summer days!

A Practical Mom Outfit

One of the only drawbacks about nursing is how it limits your wardrobe options. I miss being able to wear all my dresses. I've been grabbing my jean skirt a lot lately as an alternative.

Speaking of skirts, I'm on the lookout at my local thrift stores for a natural waist full midi skirt (which I will more than likely hem to my knee for a more flattering look), but so far haven't had any luck. You would think such a classic item would be easy to thrift.

I might just have to double up coupons and rewards and see what Gap has to offer in the skirt department.

We have been having such a fun summer. I've been full of energy lately and am determined to plan every free day with some sort of summer outing. After the severe winter we had, I'm taking every advantage of this nice weather. I wish summer would never end.

School's Out!

Since coming to the decision to start school back again, I've lost a little steam this week about style blogging. All of the sudden browsing fashion blogs feels even more shallow than it did before and I'm having moments of feeling really silly for continuing this little vain endeavor of mine. I've gone through moments like this at least once or twice a year ever since I started this blog, so this is nothing new. I usually come back around to wanting to regularly blog again as soon as I come back from a shopping trip.

This week is wedding week over at my family's house. My little brother is getting married on Saturday to his best friend. We are all overjoyed at the occasion and can't wait to be all together again. With our immediately family and a couple of friends, there will be 30 people packed into my parents' house. We've done this before a couple of times, and it's a blast. A noisy, chaotic, messy blast - but fun all the same.

I probably won't have time to blog, so don't expect any further posts this week (although I may surprise you).

Hope you all have a great week and enjoy the fact that school's out and summer activities are now within your reach!

Just Kidding

Rocked a western look a couple of weeks ago.

Just kidding. However, I did find this pair of genuine leather Double H cowboy boots at Goodwill for only $5. When I brought them home to show to the fam, I threw on the hat and told Chris he needed to take me to a country concert. He just laughed and called me a poser. He knows me well.

Thought I'd show you how I actually wore the altered skirt I (wrote) about last week. This look was also featured in my guest post over at www.hopehelmsblog.com here.

Cassi thought she should be in the photos too since we are both "twins" with our topknots and sneakers.

Pattern Mixing

When I pattern mix I like to keep the colors either completely opposite each other so it looks more color blocked than pattern mixed, or I like the colors perfectly matching so the second print simply looks like an extension of the first print. These two prints have the exact same colors, so I loved pairing them together for this outfit.

Altering a Knit Skirt

It's not always worth the time it takes to alter clothing, but when something is given to you for free, and it's a great item, I consider that worth altering.

I got this Express bandage skirt as a hand-me-down from a friend. It was a few sizes too large, but I loved the cut and color and it was in mint condition.

I seam ripped out the side seams.

Then seam ripped out the waist and hem seam that overlapped the side seams.

I used a bar of soap to draw a line where the seam needed to be taken in about one inch from the original seam.

Before cutting off the excess fabric, I double stitched the new seam down, following the soap line,

like so.

Then I cut off the excess fabric,

only leaving the waist and hem seam that overlapped the side seam to fix.

Next I folded back over the hem and waist seam over the side seam and double stitched that down, following the original stitch from the rest of the hem/waist seam.

Now the skirt fits perfect.

I had fun pairing these three colors together. I wore this outfit a couple of weeks ago on a bright, warm, sunny day, so I blended right in with the scenery.

Classy Girls Wear Marilyn

Can't help it. I'm a fan of Marilyn Monroe. I love her old Hollywood glamour style and love that she was proud of her curves. Plus, I love bleached platinum blond hair. So there you have it.

Check out my ombre hair in this photo. I didn't even do this on purpose. I just haven't re-colored my hair. Oh wait, is that how the ombre trend started? Hmmm...

Baby Shower

The girls and I attended my sister-in-law's baby girl shower yesterday after church. Of course our pinkest of pink attire was required for the occasion. This will be the first local cousin my kids will have and we are all chomping at the bit to meet this precious little one.
