Re-create

Lately I've been really trying to figure out ways to take something that truely is casual (such as jeans or t-shirts) and try to find a way that also look stylish and cute. I rarely have a good reason these days to dress-up but I get so bored of always wearing pants and plain tops. This "Impress for Less" page in In Style I REALLY liked. So much so I went out to try to copy the look. I ended up finding the top at Kohls 30% off, but I couldn't find the skirt mentioned in the article. So I found a different denim skirt for only $20.
However, I'm not sure if it looks fashionable or just dated. I haven't taken the tags off the skirt yet, because I can't quite decide if I like it or not.
It does bunch up a bit when I walk but since it has a fitted waist I wonder if that doesn't matter. Thoughts ladies?

  1. Hmmm. I can't put my finger on what it is, but something about this doesn't look right on you.

I don't like the skirt. It's too high waisted.

  3. I think that type of skirt can be hard to wear since it adds volume to the hips, but I actually think it looks pretty cute on you. Nice re-creation!

Great recreation! If it were me, I think the bunching up would bug me and I'd return the skirt.

  6. I like the look in the mag and I like it on you. But I think with a little tweaking you would look even better. I think a longer necklace would elongate your body. And while I think the skirt is super cute on you, if you are uncertain, something a little longer might be even better.

Great way to translate the look to real life!

  7. I think you need a low vamp high heeled shoe and a solid colored top with a low neckline. I'd keep th skirt and play around with it more, but I think you look cute. If you don't feel comfortable you should just return it, though. No sense in keeping an outfit if you don't feel fabulous in it.

  8. Cute outfit, great concept. I'm not sold on the skirt. It doesn't look bad, but I think since you are more petite, it kind of overwhelmes you. Is it a little too big? What about something like this?

  9. Thanks for all the thoughts and tips guys! I do think I'm gonna play around with this look a bit more. I'll probably return the skirt since I don't feel completely comfortable in it. I still like the concept though, so I will do a bit more shopping till I find what I really like!

    Thanks!

I think the skirt is cute, but def. return it if you have to be pulling at it and adjusting it. It looks super cute and flattering in pictures, though!

  12. If you don't feel comfortable in the skirt, then return it. It's ones attitude in an outfit that can make or break an outfit. Does that make sense?

  13. I think adding a solid colored flat, like the ones in the magazine would work better with the outfit to make it mesh better than the sandals, which are very cute by the way but just dont seem to fit with this outfit. Luv the skirt too!! ~Kendra~

  14. I like the skirt and think it looks good on you. The shirt is a different story - I don't think the pattern and shape are good on you. I'd try pairing the skirt with a bright, solid colored shirt.

  15. So for lack of a better way of putting it, you look GREAT when your legs are together/in front of one another, but it looks old and frumpy when they're side-to-side. So if you can maintain only a model walk and never make any lateral moves, I say keep it. If not, you kept the tags on!!

I actually love this look, but I agree with your sister that if YOU don't like it there is no sense in keeping it. I love high waisted skirts though...maybe it's because of my short and stumpy legs. High waisted = longer legs.:)

I have this same skirt and bought it in a size larger than normal so it could sit a bit below my waist. I wear it with a fitted tee so my waist is defined. It doesn't ride up at all and the hip area is smoother. The reason I decided to try the larger size was because the back darts seemed in the wrong place, once I tried the size larger everything fell into place. I've worn it with ballet flats and flat peep toes, love both. Hope you can make it work, I wear mine a lot.
