House Party

My husband and I are throwing a party today at our house. I took forever trying to figure out what to wear - and yes, after all that...this is the best I could come up with! lol!

But see...I couldn't wear pants, because it is really hot today, and we're going to have the ovens going and tons of people in our tiny townhouse. I didn't want to wear a dress, because everything I had was just a tad too dressy for what I was going for. I didn't want to wear tank tops, t-shirts, or shorter shorts because that was too casual. And then, I don't feel fabulous in any of my knee-length shorts, so I didn't want to wear those. That left me with only my skirts to wear - and of course my new denim pencil skirt is my favorite. Picking out the shoes posed another dilemma. Since I would be in the house, I didn't want to wear my high heels, but I hate wearing flats. The only under 2 inch heels I had that were casual enough were these yellow ones. The rest of the outfit fell into place from there.

So I look at this picture and think...how in the world did I spend 30+ minutes figuring out what to wear, only to come up with a simple classic look that should have taken me two seconds? lol.

It's a woman's perogative to take so much time figuring out what to wear, though, right?

Denim skirt - Gap - $16
Sweater - Ralph Lauren (thrifted) - $6
Cami - F21 - $2.50
Yellow shell necklace and earrings - gifted
Yellow canvas peeptoes - Target - $6

******

And after all that! I ended up getting a stain on my sweater just before guests arrived.

I'll maybe post a pic later of what I ended up throwing together in 2 minutes! lol!

I was just wondering why you hate wearing flats. Is it just a personal preference, or because you are short? I'm 5'4 and I love wearing them! I think they are super for days when I'm running around to the grocery store/post office/library/the park with the kids....I think they are cute, feminine and practical when a pair of heels wouldn't be. Just curious....

  2. I am SO bummed out that we missed your party, but our two precious angels were being less than angelic last night :p
    Hope it went fabulously!

  4. Anonymous - I think flats are adorable on everyone, I just don't feel like myself when I wear them. I feel more powerful and stylish when I wear heels, not to mention I find flats to be uncomfortable (I have very high arches and have spent hours in my heels without a blister or an ache). Really heels are just my personal preference, that's all. Glad you like them!

  7. I think the classic look turned out great! Sorry about the stain though...I've had it happen to me more times than I can count. LOVE the heels.
