The velvet dress

I was at Goodwill the other day to find a cheap VHS player for my son to watch my old VHS Disney movies on, and decided to do a little browsing. I don't have nearly enough winter dresses, so I gravitated towards the dress section.

When I found this burgundy velvet dress I immediately thought about the December In Style issue with its "Triple Play" article on the velvet dress.
I don't have all the elements in this article, but the article definitely gave me some ideas of how to make this dress casual.
My husband says that the brown boots clash with the wine colored dress - the colors match too closely. To appease him, next time I may try this look with my black boots and black belt.
Dress - thrifted - $5
Tights - Target (little girl's section) - $2
Boots - Aerosoles - $29
Jacket - Macy's - gifted
Belt - Gap - $24.50
Necklace - Macy's - $5
Earrings - gifted

  1. The dress is pretty! Velvet is always elegant and this outfit is casual elegant. ;) The whole look seems okay to me but maybe black will bring out more the rich color of the dress.

    Merry Christmas, Nic! :)

  2. Great idea - and the velvet dress is beautiful. I need to pay more attention to ads & articles with an eye toward using what I have....

(Your husband just may be right about the boot color! What a guy!) At least it will give you another option, won't it?

  5. I like it with the brown, I like that the colors are close. Of course, black would work to. Very clever, love the whole look
