Pregnancy Flashback

This is me 3 weeks before my due date with my first. And yes, 70 pounds heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight at that time. I gained the last 10 pounds in the last week due to the severe swelling that accompanies toxemia, making it a total of 80 pounds gained by the end of my pregnancy at 38 weeks. I was induced early and ended up with a c-section. I'm so glad we induced, I think I would have burst (literally) if we waited any longer!

Because the weight was all water weight, I lost 55 pounds in 10 days after the birth. Yes, I pretty much lived in the bathroom for those 10 days. lol!

Here's to hoping I gain under 40 pounds this time around...

  1. I think you are beautiful in this picture!
You'll do fine with the weight gain--I wouldn't worry too much about it. I had a lot of people telling me I would have a harder time losing weight after the second baby, but for me it wasn't true. And I gained less with Grace than with Jon (I think boys require more weight gain maybe?). Anyway, all that to say I think you were (and are) beautiful, and not to stress too much about the weight. :-)

  2. I wish you wouldn't go on about weight gain so much. It is a natural part of pregnancy. And from reading your blog it would seem you lead a fairly active life when you aren't pregnant, and presumably that won't change once you've had this second child. And really, if you are a few pounds heavier at the end of it, does it really matter as long as you are healthy?? I'm sorry to say that I think you are bordering on vanity, this predisposition with weight.

  3. Anonymous, I'm sorry about that - but that's why I posted this, so you my readers would understand why I'm nervous about the weight gain. The extra 80 pounds gained was not a natural part of pregnancy. It was from toxemia and made me very very sick, and also resulted in an emergency c-section after laboring all day. I'm doing my best to have this pregnancy natural and to stay as healthy as I can. That includes gaining only a certain amount of weight, not 80 pounds. I know I will lose the weight afterwards, I just don't know if my body will do what it did last time and so I'm working hard to do all I can to prevent it.

  4. nic, i think you need to take away the anonymous comment option. you seem to have some readers that want to find fault with you no matter what you do or say. i applaud you for posting a picture of yourself and for being so open about your weight concerns. we as women should be concerned about how much weight we gain during pregnancy. weight is a heatlh concern for ourselves and our unborn children. and it baffles me that we women are not more supportive of each other when we are often all in the same boat.
    keep up the good work.
